About Dr Ashley

Dr Ashley grew up in Kwa-Zulu Natal. He attended Rydalvale Secondary where he matriculated with 7 distinctions, ranking him in the provincial top 30 candidates. He was accepted into medical school at the University of Witwatersrand where he completed his undergraduate degree. Straight after completing his community service year Dr Ashley pursued his lifelong dream of becoming a paediatrician as he commenced a further 4 years of specialist training in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
Shortly after completing his degree in paediatrics Dr Ashley married and together with his wife relocated to Pretoria in pursue of subspecialist training in paediatric pulmonology at the University of Pretoria. Whilst in training Dr Ashley graduated with a Masters degree in Medicine (Paed) and received the Eugene Weinberg medal from the College of Medicine of South Africa for outstanding achievement in the Diploma in Allergology exam. Dr Ashley also travelled to Amsterdam in pursue of a European Respiratory Diploma in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine and was one of the top three candidates in this international exam.
After 2 years of subspecialist training at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, Dr Ashley received his Certificate of Pulmonology (Paed) from the College of Medicine South Africa and is registered with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa as a paediatric pulmonologist.
Dr Ashley’s greatest achievement was becoming a dad during 2015. He believes becoming a father changed the way he practises medicine and gave him a more empathic stance towards parents.
Dr Ashley has a strong academic interest and has written and partaken in several research studies and publications. He has presented on a both national and international platforms and presently holds a part-time position of senior consultant in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Pretoria.
